J. Patrick Leahy Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient

Albert M. Friedman 
Chairman & CEO, Friedman Properties
Albert M. Friedman is Chairman and CEO of Friedman Properties. Mr. Friedman has focused his career on fostering the revitalization of the River North community. Since its founding in 1970, Friedman Properties has redeveloped more than 12 city blocks. Throughout his career, Mr. Freidman has worked on diverse projects including historic rehabs such as Medinah Temple, Court House Place, and the Reid Murdoch Center, as well as new construction including a Class-A LEED certified office tower, luxury apartments, parking garages, and nine hotels. A tenth hotel is currently under construction with two more in the planning phase. Today, Friedman Properties owns and manages over 50 properties totaling over 4.5 million square feet, which are home to 52 full-service restaurants and event spaces.

Mr. Friedman's visionary practice of adaptive re-use, his development projects, and his leadership in the resurgence of Chicago's River North have earned him recognition as Chicago's leading preservationist, a top real estate developer, and a respected civic leader. Mr. Friedman is a graduate of both Northwestern School of Business and DePaul University School of Law. He has been recognized by the Chicago Bar Association and the National Conference for Community and Justice. He was also inducted into the Chicago Area Entrepreneurship Hall of Fame.

In addition to his notable achievements, Mr. Friedman is actively involved in a number of noteworthy charities and civic organizations. He served as Chairman of the Commission on Chicago Landmarks, the Workforce Boards of Metropolitan Chicago, and the Chicago Convention & Tourism Bureau and was President of the River North Business Association. Currently, he serves on the Executive Committee for the Northwestern Memorial Foundation's Board of Directors.

Mr. Friedman's passion for the City of Chicago and deep community roots are shared by his wife, Suzanne, their son Jason and his family, and their daughter Julie and her family.

Ambassador of Hospitality Award Recipients 

Paul Daly 
General Manager, Hyatt Regency O'Hare 
Area Vice President, Hyatt Hotels Corporation

Paul Daly graduated from Virginia Tech with a B.S. in Hospitality and Tourism Management. He started his career with Hyatt over 28 years ago as a Corporate Management Trainee at Hyatt Regency Crystal City. With a focus on Food & Beverage, Paul held various roles in the F&B Departments at Hyatt Regency Dulles, Hyatt Regency Baltimore, Hyatt Regency New Orleans, Hyatt Regency Cincinnati, Hyatt Regency McCormick Place and Hyatt Regency Chicago. In 2004, Daly was appointed General Manager at Hyatt Deerfield. In 2005, he was promoted to Vice President of Food & Beverage for Hyatt Hotels & Resorts. After five years, Daly went back into operations at Hyatt Regency Chicago as Resident Manager. In 2012, he was promoted to General Manger at Hyatt Regency McCormick Place. In 2015, he returned to Hyatt Regency Chicago as Hotel Manager. In February 2017, Daly was promoted to his current role of Area Vice President & General Manager at the Hyatt Regency O'Hare. Daly plays an active role as member of Illinois Hotel and Lodging Association's Governmental Affairs Committee and Board of Directors. Daly is a proponent for education and sits on the advisory boards for the hospitality programs of Virginia Tech University and Executive in Residence at DePaul University Driehaus College of Business.

Ginny Morrison 
Vice President of Sales & Marketing, Spire Hospitality

Ginny Morrison oversees all sales and marketing efforts for both owned and managed properties of Spire Hospitality in her role as Vice President of Sales and Marketing. Morrison joined Lane Hospitality in 1988 as General Manager and was promoted to Regional General Manager, then Regional Director of Sales and Marketing. From ski resorts in Colorado to corporate hotels in Chicago and other large markets, Morrison has utilized her 25-year hospitality career, operational skills, and marketing know-how to ensure profitable and service-oriented hotels. Since being promoted to her current position in 2001, Spire Hospitality sales have doubled. With a B.A. in Nutrition from Bowling Green State University, Morrison began her career as Chef-Manager of a French bistro. After completing a management-training program with Vicorp Specialty Restaurants, she served as Food & Beverage Director with Concord Hotels of Cleveland and then as General Manager for the company's Holiday Inn in Beachwood. Morrison currently serves on the Board of Directors for IHLA and the IHLA Educational Foundation. She is a guest speaker of hospitality marketing at Roosevelt University's Manfred Steinfeld School of Hospitality and Tourism Management as well as a guest speaker of Revenue Management at Kendall College. Morrison sits on the Sales Council for IHG, she has served as President of Rotary Club of Chicago, and she remains actively involved in fundraising.

Nabil Moubayed 
General Manager, Kimpton Gray Hotel 
Area Director of Operations Midwest, Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants

Nabil brings over 20 years of experience to the hotel industry, including a Master's degree from Cornell University's School of Hotel Administration. Nabil's hospitality career began in Toronto with Pizza Hut Canada and led him to Poland overseeing the busiest Pizza Hut in the country. His Cornell degree landed him a job with Wyndham in San Francisco before moving to Chicago in 1998 where he operated numerous Wyndham Hotels. This experience prepared Moubayed for his work with Kimpton starting in 2003 as the General Manager at the Hotel Monaco Chicago, opening General Manager of Hotel Palomar in River North, and most recently, opening General Manager of Kimpton Gray Hotel in the Financial District. In 2012, Nabil assumed an Area Director of Operations role with Kimpton and is currently working on numerous new Kimpton properties in the Midwest. A native of Canada, he has lived and worked in Cyprus, Nigeria, Singapore, and Germany and is fluent in German and French. Moubayed was the 2016 Chairman of the IHLA Board of Directors and is currently the IHLA Educational Foundation Board of Directors Chairman. He has also served on the boards of Chicago Loop Alliance, The Magnificent Mile Association, and the Hospitality Advisory Board of Kendall College. In his spare time, Moubayed is an avid runner, golfer, and soccer player and enjoys traveling to new destinations with his wife and two children.

Tom Robertson 
General Manager, Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile

Tom Robertson is a Marriott icon with more than 40 years of experience in the hospitality industry, all with Marriott hotels. He began his career at Marriott in 1973 and continued to work for the hotel chain while pursuing a degree in engineering at the University of Missouri. Upon graduation, Robertson continued to progress through the ranks as Director of Food and Beverage, Resident Manager, Director of Operations, and various General Manager roles from Dallas to Philadelphia. In 2013, he left his post as General Manager of the Renaissance Chicago Downtown Hotel to serve as General Manager at the Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile where he is today. Robertson continues to be recognized for his service to the industry and community. In 2006 and 2008, he was granted the General Manager of the Year Award by Renaissance Hotels & Resorts. In addition, he serves as Vice Chairman of IHLA's Board of Directors, chairs the Marriott Chicagoland Business Council, and is an active advisory board member for DePaul University Driehaus College of Business School of Hospitality Leadership and Roosevelt University Manfred Steinfeld School of Hospitality and Tourism Management. Robertson currently lives in Barrington with his wife and two children. He enjoys coaching baseball and riding his motorcycle.
