Committees and Boards

Committees and Boards are a vital part of IHLA consisting of quality leaders working to help drive the future of our industry. As a valued member of the Association, we appreciate your participation, leadership, and support.


Hospitality Gala
The Gala Committee assists in planning IHLA's premier social event and corresponding online auction. This committee typically holds three face to face meetings and organizes additional solicitation efforts from December to April. 

Stars of the Industry
This committee assists in the promotion and planning of IHLA's two Stars of the Industry Regional Luncheons in October and State Stars of the Industry Holiday Luncheon in December. This committee typically holds two face to face meetings beginning in July and holds conference calls to judge and select the Stars finalists and winners. 

Golf Classic
The Golf Committee assists in planning IHLA's Golf Classic and corresponding online auction. This Committee typically holds two to three face to face meetings and organizes additional solicitation efforts from May to August. 

The Governmental Affairs Committee (GAC) formulates the state legislative, regulatory, and political strategies and positions to support the operational success of IHLA member hotels. This committee meets approximately three times per year prior to and/or in conjunction with IHLA's Executive Committee and Board of Directors Meetings.

This committee identifies potential new members and makes recommendations for enhancing member benefits and improving methods to sell membership. The Membership Committee meets two to three times per year, typically at the IHLA office.

IHLA's Board of Directors consists of 55 members and includes 40 hotel members from 8 geographic regions throughout Illinois (proportionally based on the number of member rooms in each region), 5 Members at Large, 5 Officers, and 5 Strategic Partners or Allied Members. The 5 Officers include the Board Chairman, Vice Chairman, Treasurer, and Secretary, and the Association President & CEO. The Board meets 4 times per year in February, May, July, and October.

IHLA's Executive Committee consists of the Board of Director's Officers, Past Chairmen, and Board Members representing each geographic region not otherwise represented on the Committee. The Executive Committee has the authority of the Board in the management of the business and affairs of the Association. The Committee meets 5 times per year in February, May, July, October, and December. 

IHLA's Educational Foundation Board of Directors consists of 15 to 20 members and includes at least 50% hoteliers, 10% Strategic Partners or Allied Members, and 15% educators with the remaining 25% chosen at-large. Board members serve at least two year terms and meet twice per year, in the spring and fall. The Officers of the Board include the Chairman, Vice Chairman, Treasurer, and Secretary. The Board Scholarship Committee is responsible for reviewing all scholarship candidate applications, conducting finalist interviews, and selecting the annual scholarship winners and award amounts.
